May. 1995 HiScan v. 32k/64k.xxx.xx

HiScan is an SSTV program to be used with the A&A ViewPort VGA hardware.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Files used: HiScan.EXE Main program, first time run, makes
                               9 subdirectories for Pictures.
                 HiScan.CFG Configuration file.
                 Svga64K.BGI Graphics driver.
                 Svga32k.BGI do
Vesa driver To be loaded in some cases.

CFG: Edit the HISCAN.CFG file as follows:

                     .. Your Callsign.
.. # of LPT port to be used.
.. Ramdrive letter if 1Mb exists, else Harddrive.
.. Graphics mode 64 or 32, depending on your
graphics array, in which mode it will run
                        800 x 600 in Hicolor.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Key functions:

(C)lear: Clears screen and initiates the Wait-For-Picture mode.

(T)estPicture : Loads test picture when the system is in Transmit mode.

(I)d: Toggles 10 minute interval CW identification on/off.
                  (Default on)

(V)IS/AMD/VSY: Toggles Mode Detection between:
 			VIS code "VIS",
			Auto Mode Detect "AMD" and
			Vertical sync "VSY".
"VIS" waits for VIS code from transmitting station,
"AMD" meassures time elapsed between two line sync pulses
                        thus determining the mode.
                        (Default "AMD").

(F)ree/Forced: Toggles between Freerun/Forced/Normal.

+- Adjust timer: Increases or decreases selected timer value for skew
correction in TX and RX mode. Automatically updates
                  HISCAN.CFG.
                  In tx and rx mode:
If slanting: \, hit "plus" button.
                          If slanting: /, hit "minus"button.

(L)ine editor: Line editor to place text in picture to be transmitted.
                  <%> Enlarge Characters for DXing.
                  <PgUp/PgDn> Change colours.
                  <Arrowkeys> Move line.
                  <Enter> Paste line.
                  <Esc> Back into bussiness

UpArr: Receive screen active, turns system into Receive ready mode.

DnArr: Transmit screen active, turns system into Transmit Ready mode.

(X)mit picture: Starts picture transmission.

-> Stamps: Opens Thumbnail Board for selection of picture to be
                  transmitted. Use arrows to select.

(M)iniature: Opens Thumbnail Board for selection of one or more miniature
pictures to be inserted in transmitted picture.

(D,d): Gives access to Stamp Board tables 1 to 9.
                  (d=increments, D=decrement)

Sco(p)e: Turns on the scope for adjustment of A/D converter.
                  (Wire output to input)

(A)utoSave: Saves automatically all received pictures in table 9.

M(o)ve/Pus(h): (o) Moves picture from RX- to TX screen for replay,
                  (h) Moves picture, pushing it down 16 lines to make
top of replay-picture visibel, if no grayscale received.

(R)eview Log: Log of AutoSaved pictures, clears at start of program.
For reviewing mode etc. during unattended activity.

(S)ave: Saves received picture into selected Stamp Board Table.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hardware adjustment:
Check if your graphics adapter runs 32k or 64k Hicolor
in 800 x 600. If needed, run VESA driver.

Connect ViewPort SSTV output to ViewPort SSTV input on
the rear side of the ViewPort converter.

Switch to Scope mode by pressing <p> on the keyboard.

Press <V> to start the test procedure.

Adjust P1 and P2 until you have a staircase pattern
corresponding to the frequency marked lines.

To make VIS autostart work correctly this should be
                 done with greate care.

Be sure to leave a small amount of ripple at 1200 and
                 2300 Hz to avoid clipping.

                 This completes the hardware adjustment.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Software adjustment:
To make correction for skewing, tune a SSTV signal
that has zero skew (Pasocon,JVFAX etc.).
Press <F> for Forced Freerun, and switch to the current
SSTV mode. Disregarding synchronization use <+> or <->
                 to elliminate any RX skew.
Be patient, the operation may take some time.
The number shown in the <Skew> window of the bottom bar
will be automatically written into the HISCAN.CFG file.
The TX skew has to be adjust by reports from fellow
amateurs. (Will be working on this to eliminate in
                 future versions).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Picture file format is TGA 24 bit RGB 320 by 240 pixels.
Video Tseng labs ET4000, or VESA 64/32 using VESA driver.
PC 386 33MHz or better, 1 Mb ramdrive preferred for
                 speeding up expanding picture.
