This directory contains an addition to "kdrill"
It is normally available from ftp.x.org, in /contrib/games/kdrill,
or ftp.bolthole.com, in /kdrill

kdrill normally uses "kanjidic", a dictionary of kanji.

However, if you wish to drill yourself on the pronunciation of kana, you
may substitute one of the dictionaries "makedic" can generate for
you.

"hira.dic", and "kata.dic" are already provided, ready for you to use.
They have just the basic kana and kata, not the full range.

To generate them yourself, use

   makedic hira.dic <infile.hira
   makedic kata.dic <infile.kata

You may call kdrill with one of them as a substitute kdictfile dictionary,
as follows:

   % kdrill -kdictfile kana.dic

You may also merge them both together. For example,

   % cat hira.dic kata.dic >kana+hira.dic

[note: if you have a usefile present, be sure to call kdrill with
  kdrill -nousefile -dictfile kana.dic]

DISCLAIMER:
I do not guarantee the dictionaries to be %100 accurate. I'm only a
beginner myself.

If you want to make your own libraries with kdrill (for example, using
the greek or cyrillic in the kanji24 font), you can make your own
dictionaries using the "makedic" program provided.

Look at the "infile"'s for samples of input.
