                        UPGRADE-K TO THE K3BC SSTV

Be sure to write down the previously determined values for LT3,
BS, BL, and BP before uploading this and, as a first step, insert
them in SYS CONFIG on the new files. These upgrades grew out of my
own operating, particularly where you are one on one with another
station and want to keep the pictures flowing without slowing down
to save one or to find a new one to send.

        (1) A quick-save feature was added to allow you to just hit F4
while viewing a just received picture and have it saved in a desig-
nated directory under a dummy name without affecting your viewing.
The picture will be saved as scrolled at the time with a Q-xxxxx
name where xxxxx is the number of seconds since midnight. TSS can
be used later with "Q-" as a file constraint to view quick-saves,
and to permanently save the ones you still want. [OPERATTV & RT]

        (2) As the number of pix's in my SSTV album has bloomed, it was
taking too long to find a new pix to send after dumping the just
received pix. To accommodate this, we added a dual screen to TVT
with the just received pix in the upper left, the album pictures
below and the transmit pix to the right. You exit the received pix
using F9 instead of Q when you want to transmit the next picture,
and the dual screen appears. While you are discussing the received
picture, you can find an album pix, select it, and key in the mode
you want to transmit in as a last step. [OPERATTV & RT & TVT]

        (3) TVT was modified to add a picture type Transmit menu screen
like the one in RT. It was made as a SSTV file so you can easily
customize it. Mode selection was moved to the last step and the se-
lected pix is repainted in the new mode to see what the trimmed or
filled picture looks like. The repaints are staggered so only the
available steps in the sequence are left uncovered. [TVT]

       (4) As the number of TSR's keep growing, they are squeezing out
the low memory space available to copy SSTV. We have added a small
routine to the beginning of RT which initially measures the memory
taken up by TSR's and if too much, tells you how many bytes to re-
move. This is in lines 5 to 10 of RT.BAS. [RT]

        (5) All the transmit programs, VT, TVT, LVT, and ALCHVT, have
had their view and transmit SYSTEM CONFIGURATIONS combined into
one. Other remarks were added to simplify operation instructions.
Be sure to read the revised OPERATTV.TXT to find additional infor-
mation on the new TVT not covered above. [OPERATTV]

        (6) We bought a new NEC Versa 50/C active matrix color notebook
recently at a fire sale price. It's video board supported 256 co-
lors up thru 65536 colors, so we have now modified the software to
support a 65536 color mode in either VESA or Paradise (Western Di-
gital) boards. Just use mode 111 in the VESA program to get your
board's constants. This notebook had the worse serial port speed
mismatch with the 486 that I have seen. So we decided to force the
audio through the port in a different way ( using a technique that
W4AVO told us later has been used for high speed modem operation
with balky serial ports). While the people with newer EISA systems
won't notice much difference, some 486 users could see a dramatic
difference. There certainly was with my NEC machine. We also incl-
uded an IO speed adjustment parameter in RT's SYS CONFIG. While we
were changing RT, we decided to add another SYS CONFIG switch, RC,
which allows you to either optimise the receive resolution or the
color fidelity. Previously, color fidelity has been optimised re-
gardless of how bad the interface was unbalanced. The added switch
gives an option for better resolution for those who want to fiddle
with the interface balance. [RT, TVT, and OPERATTV.TXT]

        (7) We fixed a bug that was inadvertently introduced in the
TUNE function back in revision G. Sorry it took so long for me to
     find it.

We welcome feedback on features already included, and features
you would like to see added.

                                                Have fun,
                                                Ben Vester, K3BC
