Which OS do you use?
If you use NEWS-OS 4.xx, create /etc/resolv.conf like as:

--- Cut here ---
domain nella36.cc.monash.edu.au
nameserver 130.194.xx.xx
--- Cut here ---

and resolver will work out without changing the kernel.
