Description:

This is a program for adjusting audio mixers from the command line or
scripts, or interactively at the console or a terminal with a full-screen,
ncurses-based interface.

Requirements:

The ncurses library, found at ftp://ftp.clark.net/pub/dickey/ncurses, is
needed. Versions 1.9.9g, 4.0 and 4.2 are known to work with aumix. If you wish
to compile aumix with gpm support you'll need libgpm, which may be had
from http://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/mouse/; version 1.13 is known
to work. Compiling with neither ncurses nor gpm will yield a much smaller
binary. You will need a sound driver such as the Open Sound System driver from
ftp://ftp.4front-tech.com/ossfree/ or Advanced Linux Sound Architecture driver
from http://alsa.jcu.cz in your kernel or as a module. To use the ALSA driver,
you will also need alsa-lib 0.1.0 or newer. At least one of the drivers that
come with Linux 2.2 is known to work.

Installation:

Versions 1.5 through 1.7 used a different format for the file in which settings
are saved. The recommended way to convert an existing file is to load it using
your old version of aumix, run the new aumix, then save from the new one.

Further instructions on installation are in INSTALL.
